State-owned versus private banks: the case of both in an RBI article

An article by Snehal S Herwadkar, Sonali Goel and Rishuka Bansal of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on “Privatization of Public Sector Banks: An Alternative Perspective” is seen as something it never claimed to be. The authors’ position was misinterpreted by the opposition (and part of the media) as reflecting the banking regulator’s opposition to the privatization of these banks. This approximates “mitempfindung”, essentially a condition in which a stimulus applied to one region of the body registers in another part. In this case, what was supposed to stimulate a conversation around the topic has been reduced to a political polemic.
